Artist Tommy Hughes
Tommy’s work explores the process of integrating watercolor, acrylic markers and graffiti paint to create whimsical characters and natural environments. Derived from mixing solids, shapes and textures, his method was created from his teachings in architecture, tangled with his search for character development. Intertwining these different media supports his manipulation of scale to help solidify skewed faces and compliment scenes of nature captured within.
While an architecture student at University of Southwestern Louisiana (now The University of Louisiana at Lafayette), Tommy learned different media techniques and cultivated his love of art. Now at Architects Beazley Moliere in the Oil Center (which involves hours of technical drawing and project management), Tommy prefers to stay loose and experiment with inventive character art in his spare time. Tommy’s ultimate goal is to mesh his art and architecture into city dwelling developments, where his characters can be discovered around the corners and along exterior pathways.
Tommy was awarded the 2020 Visual Artist of the Year from Festival International de Louisiane in September of 2019 and continues to captivate his followers.
